Bland and disappointing
When Jason Smith calls his friends together for a powerpoint presentation, they think that he's just trying to sell them something. However, Jason and his wife Cynthia are actually announcing that their marriage is failing and they're planning to get a divorce. Before they finalize it, they are planning to attend a couples' retreat on a Caribbean island and they want all of their friends to join them. At first, they all resist but eventually decide that a vacation on beautiful island might not be that bad even if they do have to talk about their feelings once a day. Unfortunately for them, their "vacation" becomes a bonding experience as they all attend yoga classes, steam baths, and therapy sessions. Through all of this it becomes clear that Jason and Cynthia are not the only couple with problems. I think my disappointment with this movie came from the fact that it's not funny enough to be a comedy but it's not powerful enough to be a drama. Some of the issues that the couples face are very real and at times the film was even insightful, yet this was undermined by its weak attempts at humor. I can honestly say that I didn't laugh, chuckle, or smirk even once! Sadly, I would have to say to pass on this film because though I loved the cast...I couldn't even push myself to like it.
was a gift
I haven't seen it yet I bought it for a gift they gave it 5 stars now I to have see it
a COUPLE of factS with no RETREAT
The ratings for this movie are way too low, that is really far off in this case. I'm glad I believed the people who praised it. Vince Vaughn is quickly winning me over to his movies. He has such a natural delivery when he cracks off with a funny line. In the movie he would make analogies to things presently happening to other more bizarre things we all know about, but only he would think up these funny comparisons. He made the whole movie, but the rest of the cast was right on also, everyone seemed good at their role. It has been said this movie isn't a comedy, but the truth is, it's more than a comedy, it's humor mixed in perfectly to keep you off guard, you never see the laughs coming. I'm sure glad I decided to buy this movie. It's a lot better than it's present rating, that's for sure!
Save Your Money and Time
It is very rare when I start a movie and turn it off prior to finishing it - this is one of the exceptions. Very bad acting and not much of a story line, I lasted about 20 minutes or so. I would highly recommend you save your money and not waste your time with this one.
watch it if you don't have anything better to do, but it will be precious time lost!
You can glimpse the plot of the movie from the title, it is exactly what it says, only completely lame with over-the-hill actors getting richer while wasting our money! I wonder why some people think empty acting can be funny. What happened to smart jokes, even silly jokes that will leave you breathless? Having Vince Vaughn in this movie is a total insult to him; another example how having funny people in a stupid movie doesn't make it funnier!
